The GPS in my Fusion has never worked great, it usually gets me where I need to go. Although it doesn't usually go the fastest route, and it doesn't seem to know where all the roads are. I still like to use it rather than my phone because of the convenience.
The GPS has directed me to drive down a footpath, take an exit that isn't there anymore, go across a bridge that was torn down & doesn't recognize the location of a few major interstates. I really want the GPS in my car to be able to tell me where I need to go, but Ford doesn't automatically update the GPS map.
Ford.naviextras.com is the official map update portal for your SYNC® 3 navigation system. Click here to get your free map updates. This is the only way that you can update GPS maps on factory-installed in-dashboard navigation systems. For example, if you drive an Acura, Honda, Ford, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, or any other car brand that comes with GPS Navigation embedded in the dashboard then you can only update. Create an account through Ford's owner login system to receive free updates of the navigation system for as long as you own your vehicle. Follow a few basic steps to update the Ford SYNC system. Activate your account by inputting your personal information, vehicle information, mobile phone number and a user account name. When I bought the car, I assumed that the GPS would update itself. That doesn't appear to be the case. The map update from Ford (which may not be any better) is $150.

Has anyone found an alternative to the ford navigation map updates? For $150 I could buy a Garmin that will update for free.
